How adorable is this housewarming party featured in Matchbook magazine. It is stylish and sophisticated but it is still comfortable and fun. When you are entertaining I think it is good to show your decorating and design skills, but still make people feel as though they can enjoy themselves without wrecking your "perfect" table setting. I think this party is a perfect example. They have paired a rustic wooden bench with classic velvet chairs and a comfy throw. Then they have paired funky linen with sophisticated white dinnerware. Although, I must admit the tall middle vases look good but are a bit much. Sometimes if you add to much height to the middle of the table I feel like it ruins the flow of conversation.

Finally, after months and months I have finished work before the baby arrives. Now that the Christmas festivities have settled down I have some time to myself. Which means catching up on my favorite blogs and magazines. Today I am loving this simple clean neutral home designed by Julie Charbonneau featured in the February issue of House & Home. I love that it is clutter free yet still cozy and warm.

How online shopping websites should be designed

Recently I was looking for a new floor rug for our house and I was so frustrated about my lack of options when browsing online. I actually have the same problem with most products that I search for. Even if I do eventually find something, there are a limited number of online retailers that are willing to ship to Australia. Some how this time I hit the jackpot! Rug Couture seemed to have everything I am looking for in a website. It made me realise how much further websites have to go with their design and usability. So for that reason I thought I would do a website review. Here are some points that I think people should consider when designing websites for online shopping. P.S please note I am not an expert. I am just sharing my opinion.

1. Make your website clean and easy to read and navigate around. There is nothing worse than not being able to figure out how to find something you want on a website. The most common one I have found is lack shipping information and contact details. Usually I have to look hard for this. I will stop looking at a website if I cant figure out whether they ship to Australia or not. You should also provide the estimated delivery time and cost of delivery. I hate having to go through the whole checkout process before it provides these details. I also like an easy sorting system. I like to be able to have search preferences. E.g. to sort by price, size and so on. If I cant sort things easily I will get frustrated and give up.

2. I hate a website that is badly designed. Even if the product looks ok a horrible looking website will turn me off. Be careful with the use of colour and font. Pick a colour that does not distract from the product and have a font that is easy to read.

3. Be clever in the way that you market your product. Make it interactive and unique. For example, this website gives you the ability to customize the shape, colour, design and size of floor rug you would like.

3. Be consistant with the images that you put up. For example, If you decide to crop your products then do it to everything (like below). Or if not, at least make them look appealing and consistant with your website design and feel.

5. Make sure that you display the product in a way so that people have the flexibility to view it on different angles or close up images.

6. Make the ordering process easy. There are lots of little things that you can do to make it a whole lot easier for the customer to select what they want. Think about how people are going to want to oder things. This website provides size options that you can customize yourself, however it then it gives you an easy option of picking from popular sizes. It also allows you to pick your measurement preference e.g. cm or feet and inches.

7. The 'suggestive product' feature is great. It should provide examples of other products that the customer might like based on what they are looking at, or have looked at. For example this website has provided some suggestion of other colours and styles that are similar to the selected product.

8. Being able to actually visualise the colour of the item that you want its a such good option to have.

It is much easier to decide if you have a real example in front of you.

9. Allow people to make last minute changes at the checkout. E.g add or remove items.

10. Make the payment process easy. If they have to add lots of details it gets really annoying. Have an asterisk to help people know what details are required and which ones are optional. An automatic tab can also help when people are putting in their contact and payment details. Provide tick boxes where appropriate so that people dont have to put in their details twice if they dont need to.

My husband and I have been talking about where the baby is going to sleep once she arrives. There are so many to options to choose from it is actually quite overwhelming. After doing a little research we decided on this beautiful organic Moses basket from Bebelicious. Their baskets are so adorable and the bedding comes in a range of different designs. We opted for the Dewberry design, but it was hard to pick with do many great options. As a first time mum I think I will be a little worried and paranoid so I really wanted something that is portable. For us the Moses basket was a good option because I can move her around during the day so that I can easily keep an eye on her while she is sleeping.

NEW Pretty Maps

When my husband and I travel we often like to buy maps from the places that we go to. They remind me of all the adventures that we had in that particular place. I thought that it would be good to frame them but have never got around to it. A while ago I blogged about Aaron Straup Cope's pretty maps and I recently found out that he has new editions coming out. His art is like a vibrant colurful newer version of an old ordinary map.To me they would be pretty art even if they were not a map. I would love to buy a few of his maps that are of places that we have been to and then frame them as a series of 3 or so.

Slowly slowly the nursery has been coming together and finally it is looking somewhat complete. Children's rooms tend to become more and more colourful as they collect toys and clutter so I thought it would be good to start with a neutral pallet. I got a little excited this year and decided to put my Christmas tree up early. After being a little disappointed with my decorating skills last year I went out and bought some new decorations to add to the collection. This year I went with a Gold, Silver and White theme and I am loving it. I have been turning the Chrissy lights on every night too. Having a baby has made me fall in love with Christmas all over again. Next year I am going to add stockings to my Christmas collection.

My baby shower!

On the weekend I invited all my close girlfriends and family over to celebrate the arrival of our baby girl. Finally after lots of planning my baby shower all came together. Most of my inspiration came from this baby shower I posted a while ago. I loved the pink, orange and green colour theme. I wanted it to be girly but still have a bright and fun element to it. It was so nice to bring out all those childhood treats and that remind you of when you were young. We played games, had lolly bags and ate heaps of and sweets. Now with only 3 months to go I am getting really excited about meeting the new addition to our family of two. Hopefully my baby shower will be a sign of all the wonderful birthday parties to come.

I love it when I discover new online magazines, they seem to be popping up all over the place. One that recently caught my attention is Heart Home magazine. The magazine was launched in September 2011 and was founded by Arianna Trapani (Arianna Interiors), Carole King (Dear Designer’s Blog) and Daniel Nelson (Atelier Tally). My favorite feature from the Autumn 2011 issue was this gorgeous home designed my Sophie Paterson. Not only did I discover a new magazine but I also found a new fab interior designer.

Baby Shower is on the way..

As I said I have a surprise and this post definitely gives it away. My husband and I are expecting our first child in February 2012. We are both really excited and couldn't be happier to welcome our baby girl into the world. I was going to share the surprise last week but unfortunately we had our 20 week scan and it didn't go as planed. We had a scare but things are looking more promising now. We still have to do another ultrasound next week and make sure everything is going ok, but I am sending her lots of love and positive thoughts.

The funny thing was once I started talking to people about it everyone had their own personal story to share. I think it is such a myth that everyone has a perfectly 'normal' healthy pregnancy with no complications. To be honest I think having a child is truly a blessing and its something that shouldn't be taken for granted. Some couples try for a long time to have a child, while others fall pregnant really easily. Its just the luck of the draw. Other people have complications in their pregnancy and some people travel through it smoothly. You just don't know what know what journey you will have. All I can say is that I am very thankful to be blessed with our baby girl and I pray that she is healthy and happy.

What a great way to celebrate by throwing a baby shower! Here is my inspiration so far.

Winter in Melbourne is miserable most of the time so I am craving a little sunshine. Thank god the sun is out this morning it is a little teaser of whats to come. I am escaping the cold winter in August to travel to the summer in the US. Bring on the warm weather I cant wait. I flicked through the new issue of High Gloss this morning which made my craving a little worse. It was full of bright colours and beautiful places. In particular I loved the pops of yellow. How gorgeous are these pics!

Unfortunately my work shoes are falling apart and I have to get a new pair. I only bought them 3 months ago and they are already looking scruffy. I tried finding some new shoes today buy I did not have much luck. As per usual I did get a little side tracked and found myself in the homeware section of Country Road. Fortunately for me they had a sale and I picked up a pair of these gorgeous puppies. For only $4.95 each they were a steal. They also come in a range of colours here.

My husband and I recently went on a road trip to Mildura. I know what was I thinking! A 6 hour drive on a long boring freeway. Well...I had to find something to entertain myself so I grabbed my new camera and started taking some pics. Much to my delight they actually turned out ok. A recent New York Times article caused quite a stir.

Over the last couple of days there has been a lot of hype around a recent New York Times article about the thriving online magazine industry. The article featured Lonny, Rue, High Gloss and Matchbook Magazine. I started reading it and found it to be a little different than I expected. I expected the article to be positive piece. Instead it caused quite a reaction from some of the editors of these online magazines. Michelle Adams posted this response in person via video on the Lonny Blog. Not surprisingly she was disappointed by the overall angle. It turned out to be a "magazine against magazine situation" she said. Which I agree with. Obviously this created a bit of a stir. Paloma Contreras from High Gloss posted this article on her blog. Whilst Paloma didn't mention the comparison she did say that she was a little disappointed. "I have to say that I am disappointed that they did not mention my partner and co-founder, Lauren Rauter or our Art Production Manager, Dabney Lee after I asked them to, but am incredibly grateful that they chose to write about the project we have all poured our hearts and souls into". Matchbook magazine also responded to the article with a letter to its readers. Rue, however did not respond (that I know of), but the editor in Cheif Crystal Gentilello did post about the article on her blog. Instead she kept her post quite positive. And to top it all off, you should read this article posted by Grace Bonney of Design Sponge. All I can say is that so many people have put a lot of hard work into creating these magazines and people should appreciate them for what they are. They are FREE online magazines!!!! What more could you ask for. New online media like this has allowed us to share and enjoy great design. Never before has there been such a wealth of knowledge and inspiration that is so easily accessible. I applaud the people behind these magazines for giving something new a go.....and succeeding with it.

So I am a bit of a Jamie Oliver when it comes to cooking. I don't mean that in a boasting way! I am not as good as Jamie, what I mean is I tend to throw things together and make it up as I go. The other day I had a stir-fry mix of vegies in the fridge and decided use them to make homemade Okonomiyaki.

As I said I tend to throw things together with what I have. These 3 ingredients where the condiments to my made up version of Japanese pancakes. ABC sweet soy sauce, Japanese mayonnaise and hot fried onion and shrimp mix. I don't actually know the correct name for it. The picture is below. My husband and I tend to grab random ingredients when ever we go to the Asian grocer. I think normally you would use dried seaweed and spring onions.

For those of you who actually like to follow a recipe I have included this one from this great blog.

Okonomiyaki

(makes 1 4 serving pancake)

Printable Recipe

Ingredients:

1 cup flour (I used whole wheat flour)

3/4 cup dashi (or water)

1 egg

1/4 of a cabbage, about 2-3 cups packed (shredded)

1 carrot, about 1/2 cup (grated)

1 small zucchini, about 1 cup (grated)

1 green onion (chopped)

3 slices bacon

okonomiyaki sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)

mayonnaise

green onion (chopped)

Directions:

1. Mix the flour, dashi, egg, cabbage, carrot, zucchini and green onion in a large bowl.

2. Heat some oil in pan.

3. Pour in mixture and top with the bacon slices.

4. Cook on medium heat until golden brown on both sides, about 5-15 minutes per side.

5. Top with okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise and green onion and slice.

What a Magnificent weekend..

Ok I am being a little cheeky with my blog title but I did actually have a good weekend. As much as I hate winter it is nice cozying up on the sofa under a blanket reading some magazines. This month I bought a heap of magazines, the covers seemed to catch my attention. My favorite was the cover of Australian House and Garden. The writing is actually gold but it didn't turn out that way in this pic. I thought it was a perfect cover for approaching winter. Warm fire place with luxurious candles and a comfy sofa. What more could you ask for. Hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did.

Slowly my living room is coming together..

I have been meaning to take some pics of my living room for a while now. Slowly slowly I have been collecting bits and pieces to bring it all together. We recently got a new tan sofa which was inspired by this post seen here. Once we got the sofa we had to re-arrange the whole living room to make it fit. I featured my living room a while ago here , but I always looked back at the photos and hated them. I definitely needed a change! I added some extra seating and bought new cushions from Country Road to complete the whole look. We are still on the hunt for a new coffee table and maybe some sheepskin rugs for my new chairs from Sokol. I have found some sheepskin rugs from Ikea that I might get, but I am still deciding if I will get them. Normally I have some coral sitting on the books seen below. But my nieces came over recently and broke it (my hubby is kindly gluing it back together as we speak. Hope you enjoy my work in progress.

My New Chairs.

Today I bought 2 new Bertoia diamond chairs for my living room. We needed some extra seating but I didn't want to spend a fortune. At $145 a pop I thought they were an ok price for 2 extra lounge chairs. I am planning on taking some pictures for the blog once I get everything looking how I want it (or close to it anyway). Before then, here are some fabulous pics of how this style of chair has been used.

My chairs are exactly like the ones in the room above. But mine are silver.

10 Blissfull bedrooms and a little re-decorating...

I recently bought a new fabric bed and with every new purchase comes a little re-decorating. I have been trying to find a picture that makes me stop in my tracks, but I have had trouble finding one picture that encompasses all the elements that I want in a room. So instead I have compiled a collection on rooms that I am drawn to. I love soft warm bedrooms and I wish I could swap the dark gray carpet in bedroom for some lovely lush white/beige carpet. But unfortunately I am going to have to work with what I have got. My only options are a coat of paint, new lamps, pictures and maybe curtains down the track. I am hoping to make the room look nice and refreshing with as little $ as possible. After all I am extremely indecisive when it comes to decorating and I need to avoid splurging on something I will want to change in 6 months. One thing you will notice in all of these rooms is the comfy bedding. There is nothing better than lots of comfortable throws and cushions and layers. Ahh I think I am dreaming already. The pillow recipe that I tend to stick to is 2 big euro pillows and 4 normal pillows, you will notice that a similar combo is used in some of these rooms. I also love a little silver, glass or something glam. I consider all the little accessories like the jewlery to your outfit (in my opinion it makes the outfit). Then I want to include some natural aspects or something that adds warmth to the room. Usually this is done by adding timber pieces or artwork. Finally, incorporating texture is important, whether it be a floor rug or cushion or throw. Now I have to take my own advice and put something together. Consider this my inspiration diary. I will keep you posted on how it all goes.

10 Stunning living rooms by Coco Republic

It is rare I know, but you those portfolio's where you just love everything and you cant decide which rooms you like best. Well this was one of them. Coco Republic have designed numerous homes that are to die for. I find their spaces to be very livable. The rooms look as thought they were designed from scratch with everything bought brand new, yet they don't look like they are straight out of a catalog.

Rather, they look polished and are spaces that you could add your own personal touches to over time.

Beautiful Lucite armed chairs. A perfect mix of traditional yet modern glamor.

I love this living room. Its a little formal but still inviting. The orange cushions are to die for.

I can imagine spending my weekends in this homely cottage.

This pic shows what you can do with a small space. The bed has a suspension system so that you can lift the bed up easily and it tucks into the wall. Such a great idea.

There is nothing better than flicking through a new issue of a magazine. I always eagerly look for the pictures that catch my attention. Here are my favorite pics from the latest issue of Elle Decor.

What a beautiful classic bedroom with modern touches. Love the blue and red throw on the end of the bed and the x-side tables. The complete look is yum.

A huge library I just couldn't resist. The pops of colour keep the room interesting.

If there was a trend that I would pick this session it would be bold bright colours. I have seen it on the runway and it has also been translated into home decor. The colours in this picture are gorgeous.

2011 Australain Interior Design Awards- My Shortlist

I am always eager to find out the shortlist for the Australian Interior Design awards. It is a great way to find new upcoming designers and check out my favorite existing designers. My favorite this year was the Carriagehouse designed by Hare + Klein. I also featured their work last year as one of my favorites here. They have designed and decorated several homes that are just gorgeous and I always look forward to seeing their new work.

New Sofa + Inspiration

My husband and I have been on the hunt for the perfect light neutral sofa for a while now and despite my original plans to come home with a light fresh cream sofa, we went out an purchased this one. Its quite the opposite from my original plan, instead we opted for this masculine brown leather sofa with loads of character. Don't know how that happened there! I must have been a little Nate Berkus inspired.

I have loved this chair featured on the Nate Berkus Show set for a while now, there is just something about a beautifully aged leather chair. It has lots of character and is very homely to me.

Here is it is again in its full glory.

So to take my idea little further I went on the hunt for some rooms that I could get some inspiration from. I love the details on the sofa above and the room is very simple and classic. The room is gorgeous but it is a little dark for me so I would have to think of a way to lighten it up.

This room has a similar feel but it is slightly more rustic. However, it does have some lighter details like which I like. But I think I need a little more glam with a more polished feel.

This room is definitely getting closer.

But this room is almost spot on! I wish I could see more of it. I love the cushion combo and the little details like the candle, books and the polished stainless steel lamp. The black and white prints in the background add a more modern feel to this room and I love the warmth that this room seems to have. It is very masculine yet chic and I could definitely re-create this look in my own home. I would probably add a few more feminine touches though.

I have been planning the final touches of our trip to America in August and I am getting more and more excited everyday. The weather is getting colder and colder here in Melbourne and an escape in the middle of winter will be a perfect break. For the New York part of the trip I am thinking of staying here. It is the Eventi which is a Kimpton hotel and we stayed there last year when my husband and I got married in NYC. I think it will be the perfect place to re-visit and celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. I wish I was staying in this marvelous suite.

When ever I get a new issue of a magazine I get so excited and flick through it like crazy. Sometimes though I am left feeling a little disappointed. You either get lucky and love everything or you don't like much at all. This month though I loved lots of pictures from the April issue of House & Home. Nothing better than some gorgeous eye candy when your feeling uninspired (which I have been lately). The cold winter weather that is creeping up is not making me feel very inspired. No more sunshine, long lasting days and outdoor activities. So I am savoring every last bit of sunshine and fresh sunny interiors that I can find.

Going to London..

Ok Ok so I am not going to London UK London but I am going to stay at The London West Hollywood. My husband and I are traveling to the US in August and I have been planning our trip for a while. I get so excited when I know that I am going overseas and cant help but to start planning early. My favorite part of course is booking the accommodation. So far I have booked the Los Angeles part of the trip and I still have Las Vegas and New York City to go. Any suggestions welcome...In fact I would love to chat with anyone who could recommend things to do, places to see or eat at while I am in the US. When I was in Italy in August last year my husband and I walked along the river to explore the sites and we happend to stummble upon some night markets. Throughout the summer in Rome they have bars, shops and food stalls set up along the river. One of the things I loved was the fresh lemonade. These pictures just take me back.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Mine was full of socializing and relaxing with friends. To kick of the weekend we started with this amazing cocktail. I created it after trying something similar at one of my favorite restaurants. It consists of:

Fresh watermelon pieces and fresh lime wedges

Tinned whole lychee's in juice

Vanilla vodka.

(add a little of each to your liking)

Then mixed it all together in a cocktail shaker with ice and serve. Yummy!

I get so excited when my favorite magazines publish their new issues. I eagerly flip through the pages and have a quick glance at every page, waiting for something to catch up attention. Then I go back through the magazine in more detail and read the articles. In this issue of Lonny I loved the glossy black trims in these spaces. For some reason these pictures really stood out to me. The black, purple, gold and green in the picture above is such a perfect colour combination.

I am normally a massive fan of Olivia Palermo's style, in fact I have featured her several times on my blog as one of my style icons. But what was she thinking when she put together these outfits. They are a little to experimental for me. Or am I wrong? Love them or hate them?

Making a few changes around the house.

My husband and I got this buffet as a wedding gift from his dad and I have been slowly getting around to decorating it. I posted an original picture here of what it looked like when we first got it and now I have dressed it up a little. The Hurricane lamp needs a candle in it but I cant seem to find the right size, but once I do it will look a lot better. I also added the white tray, the two white ceramic vases and some bronze coasters. At a later stage I wouldn't mind getting a new lamp but for now it will stay.

I am going to apologize in advance for my brief posts that may occur for the rest of the week, but I have just started a new job and I am feeling a little exhausted by the time I get home. Getting into the routine of things takes a little time, but I am sure I will be back on track ASAP. Spending to much time away from from blogging makes me feel out of touch. Weird I know but blogging has become quite a little hobby for me! One thing that did help lift my mood (and energy) was the March 2011 issue of House & Home that was waiting for me in my email this morning. I always love it when my magazine subscriptions arrive. My LOVE print recently arrived from Made By Girl and I couldn't wait to get it framed and put it on my wall. I wasn't sure where I was going to put it because there where a few empty walls in my house waiting for a little love, but I decided to put in in my master bedroom above my dresser. Of course I had to do a little re-arranging and pretty it up a little. I am still deciding which look I like the best. I have moved things around into 3 different looks. Any fav's? Over the weekend our study got rain damage and we had to take everything out of it, including the wireless internet connection! So that meant no blog time for me. I hate not being able to have my blog time. It was a little weird not being able to check up on all the blogs that I read daily. Finally we got the internet up and running again, but my week has been so hectic that I have barely had any time to log on. When I finally found some grace time this morning all I could think about is this lovely bedroom. I am feeling a little tired and it is definitely a reflection of my mood right now. What a gorgeous room to relax in. Anyway....... I cant stop for long I am off to pick up my mum from the airport.

Designer of the day: Angie Hranowsky

Todays designer has been named one of the "20 designers to watch" by Traditional Home and one of the "five up and coming designers" by Metropolis Magazine and you can understand why once you have seen her work. Angie Hranowsky's spaces have a relaxed modern style with eclectic touches and she uses bold colours beautifully. When I was looking through her portfolio every home was so gorgeous I wanted to post them all, but there were so many that this post would be more like a book than a blog post. So I picked my favorite home to show you an example of Angie's beautiful work.

If you want to get to know her a little more Angie also has a great blog as well.

I love the little touches of turquoise in the stools and the vase on the table, it totally lifts the room. Also how adorable is that seashell lamp.

Anyone know how I get my hands on this fabulous piece of artwork? Let me know..

She has such a great eye for mixing fabrics that all tie in together. Love the purple too!

Dont you just love finding affordable art! Its so nice to finally be able to find unique pieces of art on places like Etsy and other similar websites. The other day I was browsing through the new issue of Rue and I came across this lovely print by Aaron Straup Cope. The picture is of a map of Paris and I loved what the artists had to say about the inspiration behind it. Here is what he said..

"I'd like to generate map tiles that give you that same dizzy feeling you get when you look down at a city at night, from an airplane. We've spent so long fussing over the relentless details in cartography that we've sort of forgotten what things (should) look like at a distance".

I was so excited to find out that High Gloss had finally published its first issue. Paloma from La Dolce Vita has such fantastic style I just knew that she would put together a magnificent team and produce something unique. And she did just that! I found that the magazine has a sophisticated feel to it, everything from the interiors to the fashion has glamorous little touches. I don't know how to explain it, but it seems to have a polished feel to it. I love it how all of these great new magazines are popping up with their own individual style. They all bring there own design aesthetic and it is nice to have something a little different and exciting in each one. One thing I did notice though was some similarities in the room above (Featured in High Gloss) and the room below (featured in Rue). But don't get me wrong, I am not complaining I love each room. Plus there is plenty of room for great design right?

Inspired by...but different

A large part of good design is being inspired by something, whether it is nature, travel or other interiors. No matter what it is it can be a huge part of the creation of a room. For example my inspiration for the living room below was taken from Tobi Fairley's room above. I fell in love with this room when I first saw it on the cover of House Beautiful and Tobi also did a great before and after post about this home on her blog. I know they are different from one another but it shows you how a little bit of inspiration can go along way when putting a room together.

I wanted to thank Sarah from My First Little Place for passing on the Stylish Blogger Award to me. I was so excited to receive this award and have wanted to write about it since I got it. The only thing is to play along you have to write about 7 things about yourself....and I have been trying to think of some things that you don't already know about me. So 7 days later I finally got around to putting it all together. Bad I know! Anyway I hope you enjoy.

1. I am obsessed with white bedlinen.

2. I am a neutral girl but I am trying to use colour more.

4. I have always liked studded furniture. I think it is classy and adds a little glam.

Last night I was playing around with my new Nikon DSLR D7000 and I couldn't wait to get up today and take some more pics. The only problem was what I was going to take them of. I have mentioned before how I am really indecisive when it comes to my own home, so as you can imagine I always have half completed projects going on. My house is a constant work in progress and I think it will always be that way. So I have been meaning to finish my guest bedroom for a while now but the changes are slow. I recently painted the horrible stripes of the walls (you can see pics here) and painted the room white. I wanted a blank canvas to work with, but feel in love with the crisp white. So for now it will stay that way. Here are some pictures of what it looks like at the moment.

Keeping me inspired....

Over the last few weeks I have been slowly collecting a few new things and bringing out some old things that I love. Nothing like a bit of a re-fresh to keep me inspired. I bought these European Pillow cases a few weeks ago from POP by Sheridan and mentioned them in a post here. I loved the print so much that I purchased a gray and an orange set.

I love these little bowls I got from my grandma. They make me happy when ever I use them.

Another family heirloom. LOVE the yellow with the gold trim.

Nothing like a set of new bronze coasters to add a bit of glam.

Freshen up your Kitchen

A few weeks ago I wanted a change in my kitchen I always like to freshen it up with some flowers, but this time I thought I would use my fruit to dress up the kitchen. I pulled out some glass vases I already owned and put my fruit in there instead of my regular fruit bowl (the vases were about $20 from Ikea for a set of 3). Kelly Hoppen has done a similar thing in this kitchen using glass gars and I think it looks fresh and clean. I love those little quick fixes to mix up your look.

Martyn Lawrence-Bullard Design is a multiple award-winning Los Angeles based interior design Company is renowned for their broad range of styles and eclectic, sophisticated yet always comfortable interiors. Some of his clientele includes Sir Elton John, Cher, Christina Aguillera, Kid Rock, Felicity Huffman, both Residential and Corporate commissions for Jimmy Choo CEO Tamara Mellon, executive offices at both Warner Brothers and Paramount Studios and the list goes on. I fell in love with his work because his spaces are a little different. Martyn has such a great imagination and incorporates something different and eye catching in each room. His spaces are also very comfortable and have eclectic ethnic feel to them which I love. Here are some of my favorite images from his portfolio.

Blue and orange is one of my favorite colour combination's. The lamp is also stunning and I love the striped rug. Also how great are those round stainless steel coffee tables.

I want those chairs!! Studded tan leather comfortable vintage looking chairs. Drool...

I also think the mix of different candle holders on the middle of a dinning table looks great. They are perfect on the dinning table but they would also look great on a mantle or side table.

How fabulous is this kitchen! It is making me lust for exposed cupboards, although I'm not to keen on the practical issues that come with having open shelving. I think it would be to much cleaning for me. I also love the striped rug. I love anything with stripes on it. Almost everything I wear has stipes on it too. I cant help myself when it comes to stripes....I am now on a hunt for the same rug for my kitchen. Although again I'm not sure how practical that will be. Anyone have a floor rug in their kitchen?

This room is dreamy it reminds me of being on vacation somewhere tropical. And yes again it has stripes which I love.

That bedhead is amazing it adds such a statement to this space. I also love that Martyn has used two different side tables. The green one is my fav!

With all the devastating news on the Queensland floods its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. As I watch the news the devastation seems to get worse and worse, but it is nice to see that some Queensland residence have a little hope. This couple are saving a much loved picture and whilst doing so are sending out the message 'Keep calm and carry on'. Its nice to see that this picture that is much loved by design enthusiasts is sending out a positive message at such a terrible time. To all of the victims of this terrible disaster my thoughts are with you.

I am a massive fan of white, it just seems clean and fresh to me. I always like to incorporate some white pieces into my house to freshen and brighten up the a space. You may already know about my love for white linens, I tend to stay fixated on white bedding for my bedroom. But it is different when the entire space is white or beige. I think I would probably worry that I would get sick of it after a while. Yet I must admit I do love these spaces, it would be so nice to have at least one room in the house that was crisp, white and serene.

I am always so chuffed when someone features Coco Pearl on their blog. After years and many hours spent putting posts together, it is nice finally discover that someone is actually reading my blog (aside from my mum). Mabley Handler Interior Design is a design firm based in the Hamptons. Their designs are classic and traditional with modern sophisticated elements to them. I love the relaxed soft beachy style that Mabley Handler add to their interiors. Their work has been featured in numerous publications, including: Hamptons Cottages & Gardens, Hamptons Magazine, The New York Times, the Daily News, the New York Post, Newsday, and on Plum TV, News 12, and the Discovery Channel. Mabley and Handler's portfolio is a must see! They also have a blog called Designing in the Hamptons that I am excited about exploring.

New idea of the day: Windsor Smith Room in a Box.

I just love it when people come up with great new innovative ideas that are really inspiring. Sometimes you wish you could do them yourself. Well I thought it would be interesting to feature some great new ideas on my blog. I may even try and make it a regular feature! Todays great idea comes from renowned Interior Designer Winsdor Smith. Windsor has created a website called Windsor Smith Room in a box. This one-stop website provides you with a Windsor Smith custom designed room and links to loyalty membership discounts from her favorite merchants culled from her years in the design world. Through this unique service, she is able to meld your design aspirations with her vision and services. Decorating your home has never been easier, more accessible or fun! With the arrival of the new year comes change and out with the old and in with the new. I think I will be switching up my old mixed up eclectic gallery wall for a more structured neat orderly one. Something about it makes me feel a little more organized.

Don't you hate it when someone comes up with a great idea and you think to yourself "why didn't I think of that?" Well thats what happened to me today when I discovered Pop by Sheridan. Sheridan have created a new store where you can create your own bed set by playing around with different linens on a touch screen. There are heaps of patterns and colours to choose from and you can change them around as you wish.

You select the piece of linen on the bed that you want to change e.g Pillowcase, sheets, and so on, then you pick the fabric you want. It also costs it all up for you as you go.

You can also swivel the bed around to look at it from different angles.

The great thing is they have all the fabric swatches all there for you to have a look at.

The best thing about the whole thing, aside from the fact that you can play around with different designs, is that the sets are actually affordable! I purchased some European pillow cases for $14.95 each and some standard pillow cases for $9.95 each. To make things even better they were offering 30% off so they were even cheaper. And guess what you can take them home on the day, you don't have to order them in. I purchased mine at Westfield shopping centre in Doncaster, but I think you will be able to order them online soon!

Designer of the day: Delrose Design Group

Today I am featuring an interior design firm called Delrose Design Group based in New York City. I came across Kerry Delrose's work featured in House Beautiful, he designed a beautiful cottage in East Hampton and I just had to have a look at the rest of his portfolio. Some of his recent work include a boutique hotel in the Hamptons, a NYC townhouse, penthouses in Sydney, Australia and homes in Connecticut and Florida. Kerry uses stylish key pieces and adds a little flair with bold artwork, wall coverings or fabric. His designs have a classic element to them yet they are also very innovative and edgy. Here is some of my favorite rooms from his portfolio.

The artwork is amazing it makes this dark living room pop and I love the light above the dining table.

I always like studded details on furniture I think they add a little sophistication to the piece. I also love the small tables and the rattan chair. Adding natural element like rattan always soften the room.

To me this is such a masculine bedroom, but I always love a little bit of masculinity in my rooms. Again the artwork is really amazing but I also think this room would be able to stand alone without the art and still look great. I love that he has softened the room with a tan leather bed. Those lamps are also divine. I am really loving sleek, simple and no fuss lamps at the moment.

Every home should have a window seat, what a perfect place to kick back and relax. Plus I love anything that is orange (or in this case the pillows could actually be tan), either way it always adds warmth to the space. And finally just a little bit of leopard and some great artwork to complete the room.

Light sunny room and comfy sofa......What more could you ask for! Some gorgeous cushions and maybe a fabulous rug, some lamps and grasscloth wallpaper.

I love the little cowhide tables paired with the blue cushions, artwork and rug. For me the cowhide tables make this room complete.

I want that desk, I want that desk! Maybe if I say it enough times I will actually make it happen.

Again I love those sleek simple lamps, glasscloth wallpaer, studded details on the bedhead, white bedlinen and the map artwork. Yummy!

I wish this picture was better quality because I actually really like this room, but the quality doesn't do it justice. If you could see it a bit better the wallpaper would look great and how fabulous is that four poster bed. I also love the little patterned detail on the sheets.

I love the bedhead and the woven decorative pillows. Again Kerry has some statement artwork in the room. I also notices the little mushroom looking wooden sculptures that I thought were interesting.

Finished off with a lovely masculine bathroom.
